The Astros staked Paulino to a two-run lead before he even took the hill and that lead ballooned to 10 runs before he went out for the second inning. Still, Paulino was effective in holding down a lineup with some serious pop before turning it over to the Astros' bullpen, which was uncharacteristically shaky. Paulino's command was still a bit inconsistent as he threw just over 60 percent of his pitches for strikes, but it was enough to keep the A's hitters off balance. The Astros are currently working with a patchwork rotation, which should allow Paulino to have another turn, but once some of Houston's starters come off the disabled list, the rookie could be headed back to the minors. As it stands, Paulino is lined up to start against the A's at home on Wednesday.
